How long has the Natural Form Sleep System been available?
Our Self Adjusting Technology® was originally introduced
into the health care industry (hospitals, nursing homes & home
care) in 1997 for the treatment and prevention of bedsores
(decubitus ulcers). Bedsores can quickly develop when blood
and oxygen are occluded from healthy tissue. Healthy tissue
actually dies and a wound opens since the body is oxygen
deficient. This technology quickly gained popularity among
physicians and clinicians once the trials supported its
clinical efficacy. Due to the pressure relieving success
in the health care markets, WCW brought this technology
to consumers in 2001. Hilton Hotels will be putting the
Natural Form in every Hilton Garden Inn Hotel room by 2009
to increase guest satisfaction and loyalty.
What is Self Adjusting Technology®?
Self Adjusting Technology® is a revolutionary new technology
that dynamically responds to a person's body weight to
provide the lowest possible interface pressures regardless
of body weight, shape or size without the use of electrical
motors, pumps or sensors. The Natural Form Sleep System
is the only bed that will automatically adjust the internal
pressure to compensate for changes in position during sleep.
That way, when you turn from your back to your side, the
bed will automatically adjust the internal pressure to
compensate for the increased pressure due to sleeping on
your side. The lower the interface pressure against the
tissue, the better night’s sleep you will experience.
How does Self Adjusting Technology® work?
Self Adjusting Technology® ensures that interface pressure
against your skin is below the point where you are prone
to pressure points which cause tossing and turning. The
Natural Form contains independent air cylinders equipped
with patented intake and outtake air valves. These valves
automatically monitor, regulate and maintain the clinically
proven air pressure inside each cylinder to eliminate harmful
pressure.
Originally designed for treatment of pressure ulcers
(bed sores), Self Adjusting Technology® ensures that the
pressure against your skin is below the point where you
will get a pressure point regardless of sleep position.
For example, let’s say you start out on your back. Then
you roll to your side. Pressure increases when you sleep
on your side. Unfortunately, no other bed can adjust the
internal pressure to compensate for the increased pressure
against your skin. The Natural Form with Self Adjusting
Technology® automatically readjusts to your new position
without changing a “number”. We know the exact internal
pressure or “number” that your bed should be to eliminate
all harmful pressure against your skin. That is why so
many hospitals use our technology for patients that cannot
move.
Self Adjusting Technology also creates a dynamic sleeping
surface that adjusts perfectly to the contours of your
body to properly support your spine. That is why so many
Chiropractors sleep on our bed and recommend it to their
patients.
Why is Consumer Reports inaccurate regarding their
Mattress Evaluation?
Consumer Reports is a great publication for researching
commodity products often found in a retail setting. For
example, if you are buying a washing machine, Consumer
Reports will give you a nice comparison of plusses and
minuses of certain brands. However, unless you sell enough
washing machines to meet their standard of being a "player",
they will not consider your product even though you make
the "best" washing machine.
In a June, 2006 report, Consumer Reports hired "industry
insiders" to analyze "top brand" mattresses.
Unfortunately, the consumer industry "insiders" did
not consider any specialty mattresses. These insiders worked
for companies that still use innersprings! These folks
have never been involved in the development, testing, and
evaluation of medical-grade clinical sleep systems (Natural
Form), which offer benefits not available in consumer-grade
mattresses.
Hospitals do not use consumer mattresses any longer due
to the risk of bed sores and their failure to properly
support the spine.
Consumer Reports also fails to report that research shows
that lying on a mattress for 15 minutes in a store (which
Consumer Reports recommends) has little correlation to
long term satisfaction or sleep quality. The research shows
it can take 4 to 6 weeks to get used to a mattress. Those "industry
insiders" want you to believe that lying on their
beds in a retail environment is all you need. Make sense?
Why don’t you use Memory Foam?
Memory foam cannot displace body weight; it can only absorb
it. Therefore, you are prone to pressure points which cause
tossing and turning. In addition, you have to sink so far
into memory foam to get any pressure relief that you end
up increasing body temperature. People complain that memory
foam makes them hot. This increase in body temperature
is detrimental to optimum sleep. People also complain that
it is difficult to turn over during the night because of
the nature of memory foam. You simply sink too far into
the foam to change positions comfortably.
The average person perspires 1 pint of fluid per night.
This perspiration goes right into the foam. We use an all
natural wool cover that can be washed in your machine at
home. In addition, wool can absorb 30% of its weight in
moisture without feeling damp
What's the difference between a supportive and firm
mattress?
A supportive mattress is one that is able to give support
in the small of the neck, the lumbar area in the small
of the back and behind the knees. A firm mattress such
as an inner spring mattress is not able to conform to the
unique curvature of the body and makes you conform to the
mattress. A firm, hard sleep surface is actually non-supportive.
The body has curves that form bridges just like the arch
in your feet. What would happen if there was no arch support
in your shoes? We all know the answer and it doesn't take
a medical study to prove the results!Your mattress should
conform to you, not you conform to it. On a hard, firm, "board
like" mattress that does not conform to the body,
the hips and shoulders are pushed up, forcing the body
out of alignment. However, the mattress should conform
to you, allowing the body to sink into it, slightly caressing
and cuddling it, to support and fill into the small parts
of the body or the bridges (arches). Comfort also comes
from conformity and allows for a more restful nights sleep.
Conformity allows for better weight distribution, which
means less pressure on any particular part of the body.
Why is it so important to sleep on an anatomically
supportive mattress rather than a firm mattress?
When lying on your back, support is critical in the Cervical
Lordosis (neck area), Lumbar Lordosis (lower back area)
and even behind the knees. Most people are unable to sleep
on their back due to little or no support in the low lumbar
region, yet sleeping on your back is the healthiest possible
position to sleep. On your back, we distribute our body
weight across the widest surface of your body, which minimizes
pressure points, and your spinal system along with your
internal organs is in proper alignment. If the mattress
doesn't fill into these areas, giving proper support, then
the spine is forced into an unnatural position. This can
cause a pinching of the disc by the vertebrae. In between
each vertebrae there is a "cushion" material
called a disc.
These "plastic" discs are made
of sponge-like material and revive themselves at night,
by absorbing water and nutrients while you are sleeping
to do the job during the day. True orthopedic support while
you are sleeping means maintaining proper spinal alignment.
How would you feel if you stood sideways or stood leaning
backwards all day? Why should you feel any different if
you slept for eight hours with your back out of alignment? With
new understandings of the human body, researchers and physicians
are beginning to look at the ergonomics of the human body.
We now know that the natural skeletal curves of the body
must be supported. These skeletal curves include the arch
of the foot in the standing position and the small of the
back in the seated and lying position. Few people would
argue with the fact that a supportive office chair or automotive
seat should have a lumbar support for the small of the
back. They would not describe a supportive seat as two
flat hard surfaces. If the above two descriptions of a
supportive shoe and seat are accurate, then how can we
describe a supportive mattress that needs to support the
skeletal curves, as flat and hard? The description of a
supportive mattress should include enough cushion material
to "fill into" the skeletal curves distributing
the weight evenly and reduce pressure on the joints.
Why is pressure relief beneficial to optimum sleep?
Pressure relief is vital to your health and wellness.
By sufficiently reducing pressure against your skin, you
allow oxygen rich blood to flow freely throughout our bodies.
The Natural Form Sleep System is an advanced system that
will equalize pressure throughout your body by distributing
the pressure evenly from head to toe. Because this mattress
conforms completely to your body, it keeps you in an anatomically
correct position, eliminating strain on your spinal system
and back muscles. You are evenly supported on every part
of your body. On conventional inner spring and foam mattresses,
your body weight is not displaced; rather it is absorbed,
so your muscles become contracted. When support is equalized
with the self adjusting air system, your muscles can relax
and your body rejuvenates itself throughout the night.
And in the side lying position, pressure becomes more critical
than support. On your side, with all your upper body weight
pushing down on the shoulder cuff, lack of circulation
and nerve entrapment can cause discomfort requiring constant
repositioning of yourself all night long. The same is true
for your hip area, with all the lower body weight concentrated
on the hip pointer, again causing discomfort if you are
on a too firm mattress.
How long can you sit with your
legs crossed before you start to feel the "tingle?" Why
should you think you could sleep in an uncomfortable position
for any greater length of time?
Yes, the Natural Form Sleep System can provide pressure
relief, thereby reducing tossing and turning throughout
the night. The average person tosses and turns 60 to 100
times a night. This is because it is literally impossible
to take enough pressure off the body by sleeping on inner
springs or foam. Approximately every 10 minutes our brains
are receiving signals to move our bodies since too much
pressure is being applied against our tissue, interrupting
proper blood circulation. The Natural Form provides a sleeping
environment that allows blood and oxygen flow throughout
your entire body. Circulation decreases with age, and the
nerve endings and little capillary blood vessels become
closer to the skin's surface. Pressure points of the body,
like the shoulders and hips, become more sensitive to a
firm sleep surface, restricting proper blood flow and causing
discomfort. Sleeping on a Natural Form automatically assures
less tossing and turning because it eliminates pressure
points.
Why is deep sleep important?
Deep sleep is not just an anecdotal description - it's
a measurable phenomenon that researchers call "Stage
4" sleep. This is a period of sleep in which the body
is at complete rest: brain activity is quiet, breathing
is slow and the muscles are totally relaxed. Many years
of clinical sleep research have proven that the more time
you spend in Stage 4 sleep without interruption, the more
rested you feel in the morning. One thing that interrupts
Stage 4 sleep is physical discomfort. If your mattress
is pressing against your tissues, reducing blood circulation,
you will be leaving Stage 4 sleep and will be tossing and
turning trying to find a comfortable position. The Natural
Form Sleep System provides for a prolonged, deep, restorative
and restful night's sleep, assuring that you wake up better
rested, more alert and more rejuvenated.
Why is proper blood & oxygen circulation so important
while we sleep?
Blood's purpose is to transport nutrients (vitamins, minerals,
enzymes, amino acids, proteins, hormones) to the cells.
The primary agent to deliver nutrients to the cells is
oxygen! Blood carries oxygen! The richer the oxygen contents
of your blood, the better your body functions along with
having a stronger immune system. Sleeping on a Natural
Form Sleep System puts your body in an environment below
capillary closure at all times, meaning oxygen is never
being occluded or cutoff due to pressure building up on
your body. Proper blood circulation is allowed throughout
the night carrying oxygen rich blood.Sleeping on inner
spring and foam mattresses creates an environment of oxygen
deficiency. Oxygenation is paramount to our overall health
and wellness. Air displaces weight, unlike inner spring
and foam mattresses which can only absorb weight. The significance
of this is vitally important since our objective is to
lower the interface pressures against the body, allowing
oxygen rich blood to flow freely throughout our system.
What other benefits do you realize by having oxygen
rich blood circulation while sleeping?
The decrease of oxygen is the number one reason for depression,
headaches and migraines, research indicates without exception,
a correlation between decreases in oxygen levels and concurrent
increases in human illness and disease. Dr Otto Warbug
(Nobel Prize winner into the cause of cancer) has shown
that cancer cells can only begin to proliferate in the
human body when our cells become oxygen deficient...and
that cancer cells cannot proliferate at all when exposed
to an oxygen-rich environment. “In all serious disease
states, we find a concomitant low oxygen state. Low oxygen
in the body tissue is a sure indicator for disease...and
is the fundamental cause of all degenerative disease." (Dr
Stephen Levine - Author of "Oxygen Deficiency: A Concomitant
to All Degenerative Illness.") The Natural Form Sleep
System provides a sleeping environment that allows sufficient
blood and oxygen flow throughout your entire body.
The
more oxygen we are able to deliver to the brain, the better
able it is to function. Oxygen is the key fundamental element
of triggering Human Growth Hormone (HGH) receptor activity.
Human Growth Hormone is commonly referred to as the fountain
of youth! This activity primarily happens at night while
you are in a deep restful sleep. Human Growth Hormone has
to be in adequate abundance in order for you to have a
strong immune system. Also, our bodies have human electrical
fields that emit a frequency. Sleeping on inner spring
and foam mattresses interrupts the natural emission of
frequency due to occlusion of blood flow. When we compromise
our natural frequencies by sleeping on a mattress other
than a gas (air, water, gel) we suppress the immune system
and become susceptible to disease and free radical damage.
We actually speed up the aging process.
How does pressure relief affect our nervous system?
Our nervous system has three main parts: Brain, Spinal
Cord & Nerves. Our brains are our command center and
our nerves connect the spinal cord to every part of our
bodies. A healthy nervous system allows our bodies to perform
at an optimum level. Too much pressure on our spinal system
can cause compression, irritation and stretching of our
nerves.
This will choke the natural supply of nerves to
the spinal system, negatively affecting the performance
of our bodies and overall health and wellness. Eliminating
nerve interference is also paramount to efficient functioning
of our immune system and organs. Sleeping in an environment
below capillary closure eliminates nerve interference since
excessive pressure is removed. The healthier your spine,
the healthier your nervous system, the healthier you will
be!
Is the Natural Form's technology reimbursable for Medicare,
Medicaid and Private Insurance?
Yes, the Natural Form is the only mattress recognized
by the U.S. Government and Private Insurance in the consumer
mattress marketplace. It has its own HCPS Code E0 373 Non
Powered Pressure Relieving Mattress. Memory Foam and Sleep
Number Beds are not recognized as Durable Medical Equipment
under this Reimbursable Billing code. Our Self Adjusting
Technology was medically tested and scientifically evaluated
by the U.S. Government for 6 years before it was awarded
this prestigious recognition.
Will my partner feel the same comfort?
Yes, your partner is sleeping on his/her own set of independent
cylinders, which are adjusting optimally to his/her specific
body regardless of yours. Does the Natural Form
make noise when you lie on it? No, the Natural
Form makes absolutely no noise when you lay on it or move
around on it.
Is there a pump or motor?
No, the Natural Form utilizes the atmosphere as its power
source. The Natural Form allows you to sleep comfortably
without having to worry about mechanical problems or the
use of electricity which increases risk for fire.
How long is the Warranty?
We offer a 20 year pro-rated warranty. This warranty
is a reflection of our commitment to unwavering quality,
engineering and product integrity. One third of your life
is spent in bed. We want your experience on the Natural Form
Sleep System to be a simple luxury that improves the quality

Why does the Natural Form use a wool cover?
Wool has been proven to be the best material on which to sleep.
Wool is an amazing fiber that man has not been able to
duplicate. We all perspire 1 pint of fluid per night. Wool
can also absorb over 30% of its weight in moisture without
feeling wet. Therefore, wool eliminates that damp, clammy
feeling we often experience due to perspiration during
sleep.
Studies show that sleeping on virgin wool lowers skin temperature
and causes a more uniform heart rate. It is hygienic, hypoallergenic
and makes you feel warmer in the winter and cooler in the
summer. The Natural Form is a combination of 21st Century
technology and mother-nature's best kept secrets with one
goal in mind: To provide the finest sleep environment.
How important is eliminating dust mites from our mattress
and why is Natural Organic wool so important?
Mattresses, (where 1/3 of you life occurs), are a prime
habitat for dust mites. A typical mattress has anywhere from
100,000 to 10 million dust mites inside. Dust mites feed
on human skin scales, which we shed all the time. We shed
approximately 1g of skin a week in our beds, and we spend
up to eight hours a day there, producing about a pint of
water in sweat, which causes RH Relative Humidity to remain
at a high level. Throughout their lifetime (approximately
3 months), dust mites produce around 2000 fecal pellets,
each containing digestive enzymes to which some people are
allergic.
The same pellets are breathed in by humans, becoming
lodged in the bronchi, which are the two branches of the
respiratory tract between the trachea and the bronchioles.
These pellets cause a local inflammation in the area of the
bronchi where they have lodged. If a person is exposed to
dust mite feces over a long period of time the inflammation
becomes chronic, i.e. persists for a long period of time.
Because the once smooth airway is now narrowed and uneven,
the airway through it becomes turbulent, causing wheezing.
In short, the dust mite allergen plays a major part in the
development of allergic asthma in 85% of cases.
